Athletic Pubalgia, also called “Sports Hernia” or “Gilmore’s Groin” is not a real hernia.

It is a weakness in the muscular attachments to the pubic bone.

Usually in younger athletic people inhibiting normal daily activity.

Symptoms:
Soreness or pain with specific motion.

Signs: may be none at all or pain with passive rectus abdominus tension.

Tests: MRI rules out other pathology.

Treatments:

Rest for 6-8 weeks.

If pain continues…

Surgery is performed open or laparoscopically to re-inforce the weakened muscle.

Return to extensive physical activity is 3-4 weeks.
